Using Forage Legumes in Pasture
{mosimage}Forages are the focus of much of the research at the Eastern Research Station. These studies include variety tests of alfalfa, red clover, bermudagrass, tall fescue, wheat, etc. In addition special plantings are made from time to time to observe the general performance of new forage species. Unlike variety tests, few, if any, data are recorded for these. Dr. Taliaferro is in charge of bermudagrass breeding and variety testing.
Results of some of his studies are linked to his introduction. Highlights of some other forage research and demonstration is linked below -
- A description of a long term pasture demonstration written in 1997.
- The economic comparison of several pasture systems developed in 1977.
- A subjective evaluation of many different forage legumes and grasses tested at this site.
- A discussion of why pasture should include several different forages.
- Forage legume establishment and maintenance
- Perennial Cool-Season Grass Ratings
